introduction

Thor Hobby is a new manufacturer of modeling accessories based in Taiwan. They have recently come out with several ammunition sets for several German weapons. This review will deal with set A7201, ammuntion for the WWII German 15cm heavy infantry gun.

the ammo

The set is packaged in a small zip lock bag with a cardboard header. There are two smaller baggies inside, each containing five 15cm rounds and five cartridges. All parts are made of turned aluminum with very fine detail and a clean appearance.

The two round types appear to be of the lgr.33 or 38 high explosive round with the s.lgr. Z.23 fuze assembly and the lgr. 39 HI/A hollow shaped charge anti armor round. I could not find a reference for the fuze in the lgr.39. The longer of the two appears to be the lgr.39.

The rounds are fairly well done, with the fuze assemblies and driving band detail present. The cartridge cases are all slightly hollowed on one side, representing a spent cartridge. To show an un-fired case you will need to fill in the casing.

No painting guide is provided. Based on the guide from the very similar 1/35 scale AFV Club set 35025, it appears both rounds would have been painted in field gray. Both would have stencils but no decals are provided either. Also, the cartridges were brass and will need to be painted as well.

conclusion

Overall, this set appears to be well made and, for the scale, quite well defined. They will make a nice addition to any diorama or vehicle that would employ the 15cm field guns.

Retail price is suggested at $12.50 US for the set, but online prices were all lower.

SUMMARY
Highs: Very well machined, with nice detail.
Lows: No painting guide or decals, all cartridge cases are fired.
Verdict: This is a good accessory set for the 1/72 scale modelers.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
