German power generator WWII

introduction

Plus Model from the Czech Republic has a bunch of nifty kits to help fulfill our diorama and stowage needs. This new release would look equally at home in a workshop setting, in the field or being transported in the back of a truck or trailer.

contents

This kit comes in the standard Plus Model end opening cardstock box with a color picture of the completed and painted generator on the front. Inside you will find:

• 24 resin pieces
• A small photoetch fret
• Small length of copper wire
• Instructions

The instructions are on a small slip of paper, broken down into five steps of the line drawing style. As is typical with Plus Model kits, referring to the picture on the box top is a big help in assembly. None of the parts in my kit were broken or malformed, and only one small item left its home on the casting block and was loose in the bag.

the kit

The resin pieces are well cast, and for the most part easily cleaned up. The frame and skid will be the most difficult since not only are they delicate but have multiple attachment points. Still, no big issues here. The rest of the pieces are easily parted from the casting block by clipping with sprue cutters or using a razor saw.

Included with the generator is a spool of wire with a receptacle and holder, along with a pair of fuel cans to keep the power flowing.

The PE fret, by Hauler, contains the rack and handles for the wire spool, small clasps and chain, blank plates for the generator (nomenclature, instructional?) and heat shield for the muffler, all which will add some fine detail to the kit. The copper wire is used for the spark plug wires.

With my partial assembly I found the fit very good. Due to the weight of the parts and their small attachment areas, do one part at a time. I used Gator’s Glue to set the pieces in place and then hit them with fast setting super glue to speed things up.

Is it accurate? Beats me, but it looks like a generator and it’ll look the part in the back of a truck. Scale wise it looks good with a 1:35 figure. Probably wouldn’t look out of place painted OD and in the back of a 2 ˝ ton GMC or Studebaker either.

conclusion

Another useful accessory from Plus Model to fill those empty places in field workshops and the back of trucks. This one requires a little extra care in assembly, although should be doable for most modelers.

About James Bella (c5flies)
FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES

My main interest is 1/35 scale WWII armor, Axis and Allied, and will occasionally branch out into other areas. The builds I have done so far have been pretty much OOB, and considering what most newer kits include, that is usually more than enough for me. Even though my projects do not always end up ...

Nice work, James! I like your question "Is it accurate?" I have seen photos of wrecked German columns, and the amount of [auto-censored] they schlepped around is truly astonishing. It's not likely they had only "Special Generators #31" all the time, and probably would've used whatever they could steal or otherwise appropriate.
