"The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a luxury grand tourer automobile developed by Mercedes-Benz AMG to replace the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The car is the first Mercedes automobile designed in-house by AMG and is described by Mercedes as a spiritual successor to the 300SL Gullwing.
"The vehicle was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. Sales will begin in mid-2010 in Europe and in the United States in mid-2011.
"The SLS AMG is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h) (figures are provisional.)
"The SLS AMG is designed to be a modern 300SL Gullwing revival. The car has a long hood, the passenger compartment is close to the rear axle and the rear of the car is short. The SLS AMG will also adapt the feature of wing doors that will swing open upwards on gas struts, not in a mix of upwards and forward like the SLR. The doors must be closed manually as AMG engineers decided against auto-closing systems because the systems would have added 90 pounds (41 kg) to the car. In case of a roll-over, the doors can be fully detached to allow the occupants to leave the vehicle."*
Herpa SLS AMG
"Super car" is a description of this luxury sports car. Herpa quality is unquestionable with this new model. The model is fully assembled and packed in a light plastic form-fitted tray, surrounded by a light card label, and secured in a light plastic box with opening ends.
The molding is flawless. The Mercedes-Benz ALUBEAM paint contains metallic flecks. The simulated La Mans Red metallic body paint is not metallic; while this model lacks a metallic appearance to the body color, Mercedes-Benz offers the car in non-metallic paints. The paint is is thin, opaque, and glass-smooth. The chrome accent trim appears to be hand painted, as does the rim of the exhaust , all to a high standard. The rims of the low-profile tires are molded in color. The Mercedes-Benz emblems are printed, not decals.
Herpa engineered the low-profile tires to slip over the rims and molded them in soft plastic.
Individual colored lenses simulate the headlights and tail lights.
Inside the car are seats, the steering wheel and a rear view mirror. I have not seen an SLS AMG underside but Herpa molded some detail under the car.
This is a high quality model that demonstrates why Herpa models are highly regarded. The finish, the interior and exterior detailing is second to none. It will enhance any present day HO model scene. Recommend.

My first model was an AMT semi dump truck. Then Monogram's Lunar Lander right after the lunar landing. Next, Revell's 1/32 Bf-109G...cried havoc and released the dogs of modeling!
