Wooden Barrels

by: Alan McNeilly [ ALANL ]

Introduction

This is another useful generic product from Stewart at SB Models, a set of 5 wooden barrels. These diorama items are useable across many, many genres and time frames from ancient history to modern times.

Whether for storing food or drink, wooden barrels are used up to the present day and this set provides a nice cost effective addition for diorama builders.

The Set

This comes packaged in a double zip plastic bag arrangement with the brand name on the front of a backing card and the manufactures details on the reverse.

It consists of 5 wooden barrels. Cast in a light grey resin, the barrels come as complete items with only the pour stub to remove. My items were free from any damage of air bubbles. You get 4 medium size barrels and 1 large barrel.

The wooden slats, lids and bandings are all well depicted. Each barrel has a suitable bung molded in place, and the wood grain is depicted in the slats.

The banding would appear to be of the metal type, so that may limit the time frame for use, but a little sanding to remove the metal joins and they could equally be painted as wood.

Minimal clean up will be required and normal precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

A very handy and detailed set of barrels, useable by any genre. These will add some nice stowage or additional diorama detail wherever they are located and come at a very cost effective price.

Another excellent product from SB Models.

Hi Alan. Good review. Lovely wooden texture captured in the barrels .. should paint up a dream. Where do you get these items from? Nice price for items like this, and as its getting harder to get the Verlinden equivelents, this would be a great option!
