T-34/76 Update Set for Revell/Zvezda

Introduction
One of the newer releases from Legend Productions, the LF1155 Update Set is designed for the Revell/Zvezda T-34/76 kits. These kits from Revell/Zvezda are sitting in many modelers stashes just waiting for an update set such as this. Of course, the LF1155 can also be used with other manufacturers T-34 kits, say to replace the ‘pre-dented’ fuel drums in the DML offerings.

details and contents
The set includes approximately 60 cream colored resin parts, a PE fret, 0.3mm and 0.5mm diameter brass wire, a length of nylon thread and a piece of lead foil. Also included is a full color instruction sheet clearly showing assembly and a parts placement option. And as an added bonus, 2 maps and 3 propaganda posters are included on the instruction sheet.
This update set comes packaged in a side opening box with all the resin parts in one Ziploc bag and the PE, wire, etc. in another. Though the packaging does not appear to be too sturdy, apparently it works. My set travelled half way around the world and arrived in perfect condition.

Resin pieces included in the set:
  • 3 Drum style fuel tanks
  • 2 Box style fuel tanks
  • 2 Tool boxes
  • 3 Tarp/stowage bundles
  • Saw, Light and Klaxon
  • Tow eyes and Shackles
  • Stacked and separate spare track links
  • Ice grousers
  • Misc. bolt heads

Casting quality is excellent with no pin holes or air bubbles evident in my set. I only found two slight flaws, one being a couple of sink marks on the bottoms of the box style tanks and the other being that no handles were cast on the saw. Otherwise, the individual pieces are very well done, just be prepared to cut off the large pour blocks. The tarps/stowage bundles are exceptional, truly a work of art. The ‘backs’ of the track links on the T-34’s are quite plain to start with, but these appear to be sized correctly and even have the holes molded in for the track pins. The stacked links have nicely cast straps molded on and all the spare links are both the plain and guide horn style. The cleats on the ice grousers are well defined and will look great with the lead foil straps added.

The fuel tanks look to be dimensionally correct and attach to the model via PE brackets/straps. The engine vent is provided with PE, with the frame for it being separate pieces, and includes the louvers for a realistic look. The tool boxes have the handles, hasps and hinges cast on which makes things much easier than adding these small details with PE. The light, shackles and other small details are equally well done and will really complete the model. The nylon thread for the cable is, well, a piece of string. I personally would have preferred a metal cable here.

conclusion
All in all this is a well thought out update kit for the Revell/Zvezda T-34/76 offerings and some parts can also be utilized on other ‘better outfitted’ kits from various manufacturers. If you have the Revell/Zvezda kit in your stash, pick up Legend’s LF1155 Update Set and get it built! Even if you are planning to build another manufacturers T-34, picking up Legends LF1155 or LF1152 will give you some nice options to use. The LF1155 can be purchased for $21.99 at Lucky Model. Recommended.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent castings, variety of items, clear instructions.
Lows: No metal cable, large pour blocks.
Verdict: An excellent update set, though the MSRP seems high this set can be purchased very reasonably from various vendors. Recommended.

My main interest is 1/35 scale WWII armor, Axis and Allied, and will occasionally branch out into other areas. The builds I have done so far have been pretty much OOB, and considering what most newer kits include, that is usually more than enough for me. Even though my projects do not always end up ...
