introduction
Figures can add realism to any AFV. They let you know if it is hot or cold, muddy or dusty. As such, it is important to set the right tone with figures. Details that were impossible to achieve a few years ago are now easily added. This photo etched/coloured detail set from Eduard will improve almost any German figure.

conclusion
The colours on this set are very good and are very convincing in scale. The details are amazing and can be viewed under magnification. I guess there can never be to much detail, even though most people with normal vision will never see it. The colour registration is almost perfect. But once again, there is more detail than can be picked up by the human eye. I was leery about attaching the cuff titles to figures because of the folds. But they went on quite nicely, conforming to the folds without losing detail, or colour.

This set will provide detail to take your figures to the next level. I am sure anyone purchasing this item will be scraping medals off their resin figures from now on. I highly recommend this set, and look forward to upcoming releases that will give us more variety.

SUMMARY
Highs: Amazing detail will improve any German figure. The detail is more than most people will be able to see. But this is not a bad thing.
Lows: I would like to see more of a selection of badges in place of the armbands and gorgets.
Verdict: I highly recommend this set

About Carl Althaus (CaptainA)
FROM: INDIANA, UNITED STATES

I enjoy modeling. It doesn't really matter what. I am just as happy making a tank as I am making an exotic car. I love the challenge of getting that top wing to stay straight on a WWI airplane, and I am determined to get the eyes correct on a 1/35 figure. Since I am now retired I am able to spen...

Hi Carl First let me say it was a very well written review. I too have a question about the stiffness of a P.E. piece going around the arm of a 1/35th scale figure. Will it work. or even look right ? Another question, By adding detail that can't normally be seen with just the eye would it make the figure or parts of it appear out of scale. Harry

Very nice review indeed. One more set which isn't going to be available in Germany (officially).

Nice review Carl, another must buy for the serious WWII German figure builder.

I used a few of the cuff titles without a problem. I put some CA on a starting point on the sleeve. (Start at the middle of the PE title, and work towards both ends. It is easier to get centered that way.) Just glue about 1-2mm at a time. I pushed it down with a soft pencil eraser to get it to conform to the valleys and peeks. Then let it dry. Repeat until it is complete. Be careful when using CA. If you use too much, it will run out when you push it with the eraser, and will mar the surrounding area. The cuff titles have enough length to go around the cuff, with plenty left over. Dont trim to length until you are about to join them together in the back. Mist with a light coat of clear flat. I did not lose any detail or color using this method. The paint did not chip or crack. As for the detail. There can never be too much detail. It does not harm the scale appearance in any way. I think the idea of too much detail looking out of scale was invented by people wanting to justify a lack of detail, because it was too hard to create. If the detail is there-your eyeball will make it sufficiently fuzzy or clear as the scale dictates. This is a great set. I hope it remains available. I also hope Eduard expands the line to include useful items for other eras and nationalities. I can't emphasize enough. This is a great set. When used with Archer Dry Transfers Shoulder Boards and Collar insignia, you end up with unbelievably detailed figures. How's that Marine Division coming along?

My LHS doesn't carry these so I guess they are unavailable here also. I use mail order. Best hobby shop around.

The color photo-etched set looks great but the shipping costs inside the EU in Europe are $29!!! Does anyone know of a mail order hobby shop where I can avoid unbelievably high shipping costs? Thanks Paul

Martola hobby shop Poland sells this set for 6.41euro. I've had stuff from them (via hobbyeasy, hongkong) and the postage was reasonable,.9euros postage for 42euros of stuff. here's a link to their site; search for the set with item nummer EDTP517. http://www.martola.com.pl/index.php?lang=en

Ouch. They are good. But I don't know if they are that good.

These are bloody brilliant! I'm using these for some of the figures for my Market Garden dio and am amazed at how detailed they are. The button hole ribbons are extremely long so you can do 2 figs with one ribbon. Bargain! The one thing that is disappointing is their are no infantry assault badges, close combat clasps and you only get two Iron Crosses 1st class. I've had to buy two sets for the Iron Crosses and tank destruction badges. I have no desire to build 10 Feldgendarmes as that's how many gorgets I've got now for the sake of 4 Iron Crosses. It's the only thing that lets this set down. While it is a superb set a bit more thought could have been put into what a figure modeller wants and also what is representative of a German soldiers decorations at the time.
