Modelers have long replicated clumps of taller grass with twine, paintbrush bristles, hair and other household material. These work well enough but often the continuity with the other ground cover is lacking. SILFLOR® Prairie Tufts offer the modeler easy to use clumps that meld harmoniously with any other form of turf.
In heights of 2mm, 4mm and now 6mm, these tufts are also available in colors for spring, summer, late summer and autumn. These lengths simulate grass heights of approximately:
2mm = 2.8” in 1/35, 4” in 1/48, 5.5” for 1/72 (6” for 1/76) and 7” for HO (1/87)
4mm = 5.5” in 1/35, 7.5” in 1/48, 11.3” for 1/72
6mm = 8.5” in 1/35, 11-12” in 1/48, 17” for 1/72
They arrive in a flexible plastic box, in sheets of 12 X 8˝ inches. Hundreds of tufts are lightly attached to the sheet. You can peel each tuft off individually, or in groups. The colors are compatible with other SILFLOR® products. (See accompanying URL to SILFLOR® Autumn Cattle Pastures review.
Shown are the tufts in individual (image 2), clump (image 3, 4) and area (image 5) use.
Application is simple and swift. Simply pick a desired size tuft off the sheet with fingers or tweezers (image 6, 7). The manufacturer recommends applying individual tufts with their own Hob-E-Tac (WD0195) or Web Spray (BO1526) for applying larger patches, although I used regular common white glue. Dressing up two cliff sides is demonstrated in later images. Possibly the only drawback is how easily they can be picked off a tuft at a time, and that they have a slight sheen to them.
All Silflor® products blend with each other. Practically any landscape can be reproduced with incredible realism. RECOMMEND.
