In-Box Review
135
Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.C Toolboxes

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

introduction

Both Dragon and AFV Club have issued a series of 251 Ausf. C's in 1/35th scale, and although we've had a photo etched set of toolboxes for the Dragon 251 C for some time, we haven't had one for the AFV club one until now. This is not intended as an exhaustive review, but merely a first look at what's exactly included in the set. I would urge anybody who has the AFV club 251 C on their workbench now to contact me, especially if they can convince me they can write a half decent build review on this set!

fret contents

Included in the set are two decent-sized photo etch frets, and a sheet of one sided instructions. The instructions are up to the normal Eduard standards, and as mentioned they only cover one side of the sheet, this set is really thatsimple!

On the 251 Ausf.C, each of the toolboxes on the fenders is applied as a separate assembly.... 3 on each side, 6 in total. Each of the boxes is folded from a single part, then the door attached to the front. The real thing was almost as simple! The only cutting the set will require is removal of the rectangular locating marks on the top of each fender in the kit. Beneath each box there are two brackets to be attached, and also a piano hinge, which as is usual in Eduard sets is non-workable. The latch assembly for each toolbox consists of a frame box for the rear of the door, and a hasp and padlock for the front.

conclusion

It's a very useful set if you're building the 251, and it's also very simple........ even compared to the Eduard toolbox sets you can get for the Ausf.D. Which is why I find it odd that this is not represented in the price? With this in mind, I can recommend this set, but with reservations centered around the price.

My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
