Panzergrenadier Div. Grosdeutschland

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

Introduction

This set was originally released as ‘Panzergrenadier Division Grosdeutschland # 6124, around six years ago, and is now re-released as a premium figure set, very nearly in fact a Second generation figure set.

Contents

As with their previous ‘Premium’ release, the box contains just the sprue containing the figures themselves from the previous release, all the rest is brand new generation two equipment and weapons.

On the original figure sprue there are four complete figures, including heads, two helmets, an officer’s cap, and one covered helmet, plus some personal kit such as canteens etc. All this, apart from the figures can be consigned to the spares box, since it’s all replaced by new mouldings on the new sprues. The four figures are all in action poses, three of them wearing the M43 field blouse, apart from one wearing an SS camouflage smock. The only gripe I have here is that I wish Dragon would supply the armband as a decal instead of not supplying it all, much more useful!

There are 5 new sprues. The first is a tan coloured vinyl sprue with four new heads. Two are moulded with hair, which offers a choice, since you won’t be able to put headgear on these without some surgery. The other two are moulded to accept helmets. Curious?

The second and largest sprue contains Helmets and personal kit, and since there are six of everything, it means even more for the spares box, the thing is though, these are second generation mouldings, which means if you get enough of these you’ll probably throw the rest of your spares collection out……they’re that good. Canteens with separate lids, flasks with separate cups……..the diorama potential alone is brilliant!

The third small sprue contains two MP40’s, an MP44 assault rifle and a Kar98, all with separate bolt detail! The fourth sprue contains eight entrenching tools, the fifth stick grenades and egg grenades, and the sixth two Kar98 rifles, again with separate magazines!

The final sprue will amaze you. It holds five pistols. From what I can make out, there are two 27 mm Walter Leuchtpistole (flare pistols), one of which is broken open for reloading! In addition there is a Walther P-38, a Walther PPK, and what looks like Luger...... although the jury is still out on that one. Stunning! However, I stand to be corrected on these.

The photoetched fret included has buckles, insignia, shoulder boards, and rifle slings, many of which will require some slight pruning of moulded on detail from the figures if you are to use them.

conclusion

I am very quickly going to run out of superlatives for these ‘Premium’ sets. Brilliant, amazing detail at fantastic prices. Very highly recommended.

My thanks t Dragon for the review sample.
