Introduction

Legend Productions has released a couple of items in their more usual lines, that of model upgrades. This time it is turret basket for the 1/35th scale Magach 6B GAL Batash that was released by Meng Model.

Review

This offering from Legend Productions is titled ‘Magach 6B GAL Batash Turret Basket for Meng Model’. This offering from Legend Productions is packaged in one of the end opening card boxes; in my case this is further protected by a stiff plastic that is shrink wrapped on the box making it stiff and improving its strength overall. Inside there a single Ziploc bag containing the large moulding that makes up this offering.

A close inspection of this large resin moulding reveals that the issues often encountered with resin parts are thankfully absent in this offering. The honey comb effect on the underside of the basket is slightly missing in some places due to the mould being broken during repetitive castings; I did find one piece of the mould which indicates that Legend Productions uses moulds in purple or pink, it’s hard to tell from the small portion I found. Due to this being the only weakness I can overlook this as it will not be seen on the model and could have easily been left featureless by Legend Productions with no issues.

The cloth elements of this moulding are exceptional due to looking very realistic in nature. The ties are another section that is worth mentioning as they are again well replicated by Legend Productions. The undercuts in the product add a nice dimension to the casting and are the area where resin parts have the edge over injection moulded plastic.

The pour plug has been designed to also support the moulding and help avoid any distortion, it does this very well; a downside is that removal of the pour plug will require the modeller to take it slow. I do not think it will damage the main portion of the moulding, but on the underside there are four very fine parts of the basket that protrude in to the plug and these could easily be damaged.

Conclusion

I think this offering from Legend Productions would add a good looking stowage to the rear of the Meng Magach 6B in 1/35th scale. The negatives are restricted to an area that cannot be seen on a finished model and so not an issue in my view, if anything I am impressed that Legend Productions decided to add the detail there in the first place. If you want a covered stowage for you Meng Magach this will provide a very realistic article that despite being solid looks like cloth over articles.

The basket Legend makes for the Academy 6B gal Batash kit almost fits the Meng kit so close I almost used it on the Meng kit. I would have to check this looks like a differnt casting than the original basket. Dave
