Dear Mom WWII German Soldiers

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

introduction
Although Legend Productions figures have now been around for some time, this is the first set of figures from them I've been able to get a really close look at. I think I've tended to shy away from them purely because they're not the most expensive figure sets you can get, and I've therefore had doubts about their quality. This set has firmy laid those doubts to rest.

contents
Inside the end-opening box you'll find one ziploc bag with all the parts you need to build two soldiers, one dog, and a fairly big tree log that the two soldiers are sitting on. There ae no instructions, but given the simplicity of the set, these aren't really necessary.

Parts Quality
All the parts are attached to fairly small pouring blocks, by thin webs in most cases, and are therefore easily removed from the blocks without marring the surface detail. Each soldier comes in either 6 or 7 parts depending which one. The dog is a one-piece moulding, as is the tree trunk.

The tree trunk has some beautiful engraved detail on it, and is joined to the pouring block along the underside length. Even the ends are nicely engraved. The dog is nicely engraved too, and even has a small tongue protuding from it's mouth!

The first of the figures is sitting against the tree trunk, with his legs extended and crossed, possibly reading a letter from home, which isn't included, but a small piece of foil would do the job. A really nice touch is that this figure has the pouring blocks attached to his boots along the back of the boots, which means since his legs are extended, there is a fantastic bit of moulding on his boot soles, which is not spoilt by the blocks. He has his shirt open at the waist, ID tags nicely engraved hanging around his neck. He wears no headgear, yet the quality of the engraved hair is the equal to any of the separate head sets you can buy.

The second soldier sits on the tree trunk itself, has his tunic buttoned up and wears the field sidecap. He too, appears to be reading something, and again, the moulding, particularly on the face is one of the nicest I've seen.

conclusion
A beautifully sculpted, quality set, at an excellent price. Recommended.
