Introduction
Ground Asian Palm is a set of tropical flora by Model Scene. It is set VG3-036 and intended for scales from 1/45 to 1/35.

Planting
Ground Asian Palm set contains three sheets of colored paper of cleanly formed laser-cut palms. Other plants, individual leaves, plus frogs and snakes are also lased into each sheet. I did not count all the pieces although I estimate there are at least a dozen individual leaves per sheet, and around 90 plants and animals per set.

Those plants and individual leaves can be used for ground cover or camouflage for troops and vehicles. I see nothing inherently tropical about the broad leaf plants and leaves so they should be at home on any diorama, whether tropical or temperate.

The paper is colored green and yet Model Scene states that modelers can paint them with acrylic or oil paints. That allows us to enhance the leaves with yellowing or browning to simulate the effects of weather, insects, or disease.

Ground Asian Palm plants have veining pressed or lased into the leaves. That further enhances how good these models look.

It took me less than 20 minutes to cut and pick the plants out of all three sheets. I folded them over a screwdriver, a pencil, and even my finger. They hold their shape easily.

The paper is not solid and yet it is sturdy enough not to fold when I stuck the stalks/branches into the ground. The paper is also sturdy enough to hold the large fronds aloft.

Scale
Model Scene cut this set, VG3-036, for the range of 1/32 to 1/45. They also make this plant set for 1/45-1/72, set VG7036. I think that that the variation in real life ground palms allows these to be used for most any scale that a modeler's eye is satisfied with.

I posted my set with a 54mm Viet Cong, and with two 1/35 Japanese troops and a 1/35 jeep trailer. I think that I will also plant them with some 1/48 models to demonstrate that scale, too.

Conclusion
Model Scene has created a valuable and versatile set with Ground Asian Palm. The number of plants allows a good scene. The plants are precisely cut. The number of plants and animals on each sheet provides the modeler with a lot of eye-catching items to enhance a diorama or individual subject. I plan to paint the snakes and lizards and frogs and show them with the plants, and also with 1/48 models.

The pre-colored paper is very easy to work with and can be painted to suit the modeler's sense of authenticity.

Ground Asian Palm is a great value and has great potential for modelers. I happily recommend this set.
