Introduction

It is usually small details and accessories that make the models interesting and attractive. Aftermarket supplies for tanks and vehicles have evolved dramatically during the last decade and new products are always welcome as long as they deliver something unique and of a good quality.

RMG resin models have been circulating on Facebook and websites for some time and I was excited to see what are they are offerings. For the first item the choice was obvious for me as it suited my current workbench projects – a set of tow cables for Soviet heavy tanks.

Review

The item ref # RM 037 comes in a small hard clear plastic container with a product cover, background information, 4 resin eyelets, 4 lengths of copper cables (approximately 12 cm each piece) and some fine wire in a zip lock bag.

The casting of resin eyelets is exceptional with only minor sanding required. You need to remove them from small casting blocks but be sure not to sand off the imitation of cast markings on them. The eyelets are open on the cable side and it is easy to insert the copper cable into it. A drop of cyanoacrylate glue is sufficient for fixing it inside. The fine wire can be bent around the cable closer to the eyelet as seen on some of the references. There is also an opening on the inner side of the eyelet as on real examples.

The copper cables are rather soft (unlike Aber cables, f.e.) and positioning on the model would be very easy just take care about realistic look as cables on heavy tanks should look as cables on a heavy tank, do not bend them too much. The copper is already pre-coloured and this eliminates problems if you scratch off the paint from them once on a model. As for comparison with kit cables (i.e. Trumpeter as on my pictures) RMG resin models product is simply superior with regards to overall appearance and accuracy. Both types of copper cables included in this set have 1mm in diameter but they differ in their pattern – thickness of wires that make the cable.

The background information included in the set contains instruction on how to use the product, precautions for working with resin and CA and even a brief history of cables.

Conclusion

This is an excellent set of copper cables that would satisfy anyone looking for realistic accessories for their models of Soviet heavy tanks. The quality is one of the best I ever seen (if not the best) and you have options included which is always a plus.
