Ballistic glasses and goggles are designed to protect the eyes from small projectiles and fragments in extreme environments. In combat operations, the potential for high velocity impacts from flying debris and shrapnel requires the use of ballistic eyewear that meets or exceeds US Military Ballistic Standard MIL-PRF-31013. In addition to ballistic performance, the US military standard includes requirements for optical clarity, protection from UV rays, fit, chemical resistance, and environmental stability. The Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL) catalogues all the ballistic eyewear examined and tested, and in compliance with US military standards.
Established in 1998, ESS (Eye Safety Systems, Inc.) creates advanced eye protection systems for military, law enforcement, fire/rescue and shooting sport markets. ESS is a leading supplier of eyewear to the US Armed Forces and has been issued to militaries, police departments and fire/rescue personnel in over 100 countries worldwide.
Live Resin produces a huge number of figure accessories in 1/35 scale. This review covers their ESS Crossbow goggles Ballistic Eyeshields - ESS Eye Pro (LRE35104). For all Live Resin reviews on Armorama, please check this link
Live Resin set is packed in zip-lock bag safely secured between cardboard backing. The CAD box art image on the front shows the contents of the set, while the one on the back displays the spectacles in more detail. The set consists of 1 resin casting block with 8 parts in total. The parts are molded in transparent resin and, as expected from Live Resin, the cast is perfect. Some patience is suggested when removing the parts from their carrier blocks; transparent resin tends to be very brittle and the delicate pieces can easily snap.
The set depicts ESS Crossbow protective spectacles, featuring plastic frame and interchangeable polycarbonate lenses. The ESS Crossbow provides ballistic-fragmentation protection, meets all US military optical and safety requirements and is APEL registered. Live Resin did a great job on these eyeshields, perfectly delivering complex shape of the spectacles and reproducing all the tiniest details accurately in scale. I attached the photo of the real ESS Crossbow to this review, so the readers can witness how well Live Resin did their job. Casting the set in transparent resin is a big plus, adding to the realistic appearance of the goggles. Modelers just need to decide which Crossbow lenses to depict: transparent, grey or some of the colorful Hi-Def lenses.
ESS Crossbow goggles Ballistic Eyeshields - ESS Eye Pro (LRE35104) from Live Resin offers 8 spectacles cast perfectly in transparent resin. The details are wonderfully delivered in scale, making these goggles an authentic miniature copy of the real ESS Crossbow ballistic eyeshields. If you are looking for some extra eye protection for your 1/35 scale troops, look no further, this is a perfect set for you.
