Review

The latest guide from Glenn Bartolotti covers the painting and weathering of the Tamiya Type 166 Schwimmwagen, and completes it by creating a diorama step by step. The guide does start with a brief description of the kit from Tamiya before moving on to painting and weathering. The description of painting is done well showing the use of pre-shading. This is followed by a great walk through of weathering the vehicle. The text includes paints and media used with good step-by-step description of how to apply the paint and weathering.

After the vehicle is complete, the guide moves on to creating a convincing small diorama for the Schwimmwagen. Again accompanying the images is descriptive text on the materials used and how to use them to effectively create the diorama. It also provides great tips in the material use that could be used on other projects.

The guide ends with how to use the diorama material to blend the vehicle into the diorama. And while there is two figures shown in the diorama, there is no assistance on the completion of the figures. But then again, doing figures, in my opinion is almost a project on their own.

Conclusion

For those learning to paint models and build dioramas this is a great guide. It could even be used by us more experienced modelers looking to find a new technique or two. The guide does a create job of walking the reader, and potential modeler, through the steps of painting and building the diorama, with good explanation and list of material to use. I highly recommend this new guide from Glenn Bartolotti.
