Mounting Brackets
Mounting brackets for Swing Arms and Vertical Arm Gun Mounts
  • move

by: Mario Matijasic [ MAKI ]

Introduction:

A swing mount is a fixed machine gun mount that allows a far greater and more flexible arc of fire than the simple pintle mount system. Utilizing a system of one or two articulated arms the gunner can swing the weapon through a wide arc even though the gunner's position is fixed relative to the mount. These systems vary in complexity from a simple arm, to a double arm with the ability to lock the weapon in any firing position.

A vertical arm gun mount is a short vertical post which provides machine gun with its horizontal axis of rotation.

Review:

Live Resin recently released number of vehicle accessory sets in 1/35 scale, dedicated primarily to upgrade Humvees and MRAPs. This review covers their Mounting Brackets for Swing Arms and Vertical Arm Gun Mounts (LRE35162). For other reviews of Live Resin products on Armorama, please check this link.

The set is packed in a zip-lock bag safely secured between a firm cardboard backing. The CAD box art on the front shows contents of the set, while the one on the back displays the mounting brackets in use, also stating this set can be used with all 1/35 scale vehicles from any manufacturer.

The kit consists of 4 resin casting blocks with 18 parts altogether. The parts are molded in a typical Live Resin fashion; the grey resin is of highest standard with details perfectly delivered in scale.

This set includes two different mounting posts developed by Military Systems Group. The first is a simple Adjustable-Height Pintle Adapter, a bracket for mounting Swing Arms to any socket/receiver that accepts a Bearing Sleeve, featuring a ball lock pin to fix the system in different height positions. The other depicts an Adjustable-Height Bracket Kit which bolts to the Humvee cargo side rail. It features a travel lock that swings in place to pin into the travel lock block on the rear of the H24 family of machine gun mounts. The kit consists of 6 Adjustable-Height Pintle Adapters and 12 Adjustable-Height Brackets, supplied in two different height positions (6 each). The details on both types of brackets are wonderfully rendered and, as far as I can tell, accurately depict real mounting posts. The Adjustable-Height Brackets are missing the travel lock, but those are probably too thin to cast in resin. Modelers will have to find a solution using custom PE or very thin styrene sheet to reproduce this detail themselves.

Conclusion:

Mounting brackets for Swing Arms and Vertical Arm Gun Mounts (LRE35162) is another useful addition to the growing range of Live Resin vehicle accessories in 1/35 scale. It includes 18 mounting brackets; 6 pintle adapters and 12 adjustable-height brackets supplied in two different height positions. The set is well cast and nicely detailed, offering various brackets for your Humvee or MRAP vehicle builds.
SUMMARY
Highs: Perfectly cast brackets feature well defined details.
Lows: No travel locks included.
Verdict: Highly recommended.

About Mario Matijasic (Maki)

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
