Introduction

Noch from Germany are well known manufacturer of diorama items for railroad modelling. Their products also can be used in different applications depending on the scale. I had no experience with them before this item and was excited to become familiar with new manufacturer.

Contents

The item 07136 contains Lavender plants in H0 (1/87 scale). These are packed in hard plastic blister sampled to cardboard backer. The backing card has information regarding the products, step-by-step images on how to use them plus product announcement and company info. This particular set had a sticker ‘new’ on the blister meaning that it is hitting the stores now and even the official website is not listing it in the online catalogue (however there are shops that sell it if you Google).

Review

The blister is organized in a way that the contents are not damaged and prevented from moving during transportation and storage. Inside there are 18 individual shrubs/patches of lavender plants and 18 lavender strips of different length (4-8cm). The plants are made of static grass (?) and small flowers glued to the base. Visually they resemble real lavender plants pretty well as they have evergreen leaves and pinkish-purple flower colour.

To see how it will work with scale model I used several flower patches on a base next to 1/72nd scale FT-17 tank. The patches were glued using white glue and then the leaves were toned down a bit with several green paints. Looks perfect to me!

Conclusion

Great set of lavender plants with a very realistic look that will make a great addition to landscape on your diorama/vignette. Ready to use directly from package and are sorted in different sizes. The only minor issue that comes to my mind is that they do not smell like real lavender if you care.
SUMMARY
Highs: Great set of lavender plants for small scale diorama/vignette.
Lows: No real lavender smell.

Thanks for the review Roman! It looks really nice stuff. Lavender fits very well with a French tank. The H0 scale scenery materials offer lots of possibilities for the 1/72 (terrain) modelers among us. Jelger

Nice review. Thanks for taking the time to put lavender plants on an actual base. Don't limit the use of these to just small scale builds. I use the Noch grass clumps (in several different colors) to add variety in the vegetation on my 1/35 scale builds. Nature comes in all sizes. The Noch products are also pretty easy to source since you can get your LHS to order them through their model RR product vendors. You can order them VFR direct from Walthers, too. Noch also does a series of tree leaf materials for flocking that are quite nice and useful, too. These are small paper "leaves" that come in several different colors, quite different from the fibrous materials with ground foam that Woodland Scenics and others sell.

This product lends quite a splash of nature to otherwise drab military subjects. Here's a review of the paper leaves: LINK

"...they do not smell like real lavender..." :-) Maybe NOCH's R&D will add that!
