Itís that time again where we get to take a look at the latest lenses and taillights set from SKP Model. This time SKP Model has added to their growing list of lenses and taillights the RG-31 Mk 3 MRAP. This set has been released at a good time as more vehicles in this line are being added all the time.
This set of lenses and taillights from SKP Model is packaged in typical fashion, the single photo etched fret is in a clear Ziploc plastic bag which is taped to a hanging card by a label with all the relevant detail clearly displayed on it. This set of lenses and taillights has been made specifically to adorn the Kinetic RG-31 Mk 3 MRAP offering, but I see no reason why it cannot be used on releases by other manufacturers.
In this set you get the twin headlights with the usual excellent definition behind the clear lenses, it is the detail behind the clear lenses that make this product line stand out in my books. Also supplied for the front end are the indicators both front and side, there is also two photo etched panels in the set that I believe have the side indicator lenses stuck to them before application to the model.
Moving to the rear of the vehicle you get the tricolour rear light clusters, I rate this cluster very highly as I do not believe it can be bettered, one thing I should point out is that during my look around the internet images, I found images of the rear light cluster only have red and amber present, this set could still be used if an application of clear red is placed over the clear portion of the lens. So remember to check your references. The last lens in this set is a large red square which is placed on the rear of the vehicle to the inside of the left light cluster, I am unsure of its purpose but best guess is an infra red convoy light. I am happy to be corrected in that belief as infra red lights usually look almost black.
As always with these lenses and taillights sets from SKP Model what is there to say? I have yet to see anyone provide an alternative to these products that look anywhere near as good or convincing. The rear light cluster in this offering is stunning in its simplicity and will really add to a well finished model. This set will be going to Kevin Brant to be added to one of his builds and he will be putting up a photo feature of that model so that you can see the full effect.
Highs: The rear light cluster is particularly eye catching and must rate as the high point of this product.Lows: As always I do wish that SKP Model would supply some instruction as it is not always clear what goes where.Verdict: If you have an RG-31 Mk 3 MRAP why have you not bought a set of these already?
