Introduction

I'm not a big fan of reviews that don't talk honestly about products. What's the point of only hearing about a product's highlights and skipping the lowlights? Typically when I see a product rated at 100%, I dismiss the review as one that wasn't being truly open and honest. That's not happening today. I'm sharing a review on a beautiful product that has absolutely earned a 100% rating. I truly and honestly can't find one flaw to complain about.

Review

The set in question is a collection of two sizes of German 88mm ammo boxes. There are 12 in total resin ammo boxes, 6 two round and 6 one round. Each of these 12 castings is perfect. Detail is crisp, the 90 degree corners are perfectly sharp, and the scale feels pretty accurate. I didn't actually get out my calipers and conversion tables, but I feel completely confident putting these next to my models and figures. There are no mold carriers that have to be cut off, and even better... there's effectively no clean up needed on the non-detailed mold side. They are near perfect flat, which means you don't have to struggle to sand down that molding side while avoiding the "round over" effect. If you wanted to turn these boxes on their sides and expose that molded, detail-free side, you'd need to sand/scrape down the edges a small amount to fully flatten them out, and you'd need to add some texture in to match the rest of the box. But this would literally take a matter of minutes to complete on each box.

Also included in the box is an instruction sheet (nice for a product of this nature... we don't normally see that, and Archer decals that offer up markings for:
  • 88mm for Tiger I variant
  • 88mm Tiger II & PaK 43/41 variant 2 marking on top lid
  • 88mm Tiger II & PaK 43/41 variant marking on front side

I haven't tried the decals yet, but Archer has a pretty stellar reputation. Kudos to the folks at Reality in Scale for partnering with a quality manufacturer like Archer, rather than hacking out some marginal quality option of their own. I wish we saw more of this kind of partnering in our hobby.

Lastly, I'd like to point out the container. I know that may seem like a silly thing to review, but as we all have experience, packaging matters, considering how long some of our products bounce around in our stashes. This product comes in a firm, reusable fold-open package.

This was my first exposure to a Reality in Scale product. It won't be my last, and if other products from their line prove to be as impressive, they'll quickly become my first stop when accessory shopping!
SUMMARY
Highs: Sharp molding, no clean-up required, nice instructions, and quality decals with several options
Lows: Literally none. I couldn't have asked for a better product.
Verdict: No question, a must buy if you're building something that uses 88mm ammo!
