I've been lucky enough to Review the first couple of books in Xtreme Modeliing's series Elements in Combat. Both of which dealt with Diorama techniques. This New book however, is going in a slightly different direction.
Elements in combat # 3 - Tiger & Variants

This third book of the company's themed modelling books "Elements in Combat" is dedicated to the German Tiger I and Sturmtiger. In addition to the photos of the models, the book includes step by step articles that show how to build, modify and weather some of the many models available of this German tank.

So, do we REALLY need another book on the Tiger? The answer, (coming from a NON Tiger-Holic) is yes. The Tiger (and its variants) STILL remains a very popular modeling subject and, surprisingly enough, there HAVEN'T been all that many books on on actualy modeling the vehicle.

So, what about the contents? The book is split into three sections: dealing with three different Variants: The 'Initial', the 'Late' and the Sturmtiger. The chapter headings make this clearer:

TIGER I INITIAL PRODUCTION

IN THE BEGINNING - Javier Franco
DAK's TIGER SECRET- José L. López
TIGER FOREVER - Richard Vázquez

TIGER I LATE PRODUCTION

Tiger 911, 9th Pz.Kp. "Totenkopf" - Francisco J. Arévalo
Tiger 234, s.Pz.Abt. 505 - Javier Soler
Tiger 334, ssPz.Abt.102 - Ricardo Merino

STURMTIGER

Sturmtiger Late Production - Ignacio del Corral
Sturmtiger Early Production - José A. Azorín

The book's format is A-4 Soft cover with 112 pages and will retail at 22.95€

The book can be ordered directly through the publisher's website:

IMO the particular subject of these kinds of books, in this case the Tiger, is almost irrelevant. The true message/s in these kinds of books are the techniques displayed and discussed - the subject (again, the Tiger) is merely the platform to demonstrate and deliver the message. These books shouldn't be pigeon-holed, they're useful to all armour modellers - not only Tiger-holics, or fans of whatever vehicle/figure is being used to demonstrate a technique. I'll definitely have to pick this one up (actually still need to pick the other 2 up as well ) Rudi

I agree with Rudi: the theme might be the Tiger, but the techniques can be applied to any Wehrmacht vehicle, and probably to other nationalities, too. Is there a reasonable US dealer for these books? I don't like to support the horrendous European postal charges.
