REFORGER 85 Central Guardian, Winter War FTX against the Warsaw Pact

In January 1985, the US Army conducted a cold-weather, multinational field training exercise (FTX) in West Germany - Central Guardian. This was part of the strategic mobility exercise REturn of FORces to GERmany 85 (REFORGER 85). The aim of REFORGER 85 and Central Guardian was to rehearse the capacity of US Army forces to reinforce Europe and to fight in adverse weather conditions. These operations were to be carried out in operational circumstances simulating wartime conditions as much as possible. FTX Central Guardian involved the participation of 72,521 troops, 6,938 tracked and 16,531 wheeled vehicles, and 611 helicopters.

This publication shows in great detail and with many action-packed hitherto unpublished photographs how a winter war between the NATO and the Warsaw Pact would have looked like!

Illustrated with 12 black & white photographs, 120 colour photographs and 5 graphics. English text. 64 pages.

Leopard 2A4, Part 1 - Development and Active Service

The Leopard 2 main battle tank can easily be regarded as a child of the depths of the Cold War. When the Leopard 2 was first fielded in 1979, it already was by far the best MBT in the world as it not only stood out from other tanks in all important parameters such as protection, mobility and armament, but also in secondary aspects like ergonomics, maintenance friendliness and reliability. Besides its high performance, its growth potential, adaptability and durability are the main characteristics of the design.
Based on current plans, the Leopard 2 will be used by the Bundeswehr till at least 2040, which means a usage period of 60 years.

Illustrated throughout with 112 colour photographs and one five-perspective drawing in 1/35 scale. English text. 64 pages.

Leopard 2A4 Part 2 - Technology and Driver Training Vehicle Leopard 2

This second volume is illustrated throughout with 184 colour photographs, 18 graphics and one five-perspective drawing in 1/35 scale. English language. 72 pages.

FV4201 Chieftain, Britain's Cold War Main Battle Tank

The FV4201 Chieftain was the first purposely designed main battle tank (MBT) of the British Army, and the main weapon system of the Royal Armoured Corps for most of the Cold War era. When it entered service in the 1960s it replaced the medium and heavy gun tanks in service with the British Army at that time, namely the FV4007 Centurion and FV214 Conqueror. The Chieftain was designed to dominate the battlefields of Western Europe if the Cold War ever turned hot, plus it was engineered to be superior to Soviet tank designs. In total, the British Army eventually received 941 FV4201 Chieftain MBTs. This publication describes meticulously and in great detail the various variants (Marks) of the Chieftain as well as the tank's development and technology. For this purpose, it almost exclusively uses hitherto unpublished photographs taken on various exercises.

Illustrated with 92 colour photographs and 36 black & white photographs. English text. 72 pages.

All the above title will start shipping by mid-March 2020.

Lots to like here and Tankograd has always been known for their great photos. The Leo 2 A7V will be of particular interest, though the development of the A4 will undoubtedly be interesting/useful reading.
