Released late last year, Hobby Boss shares photos of the built model as well as the kit contents.
Produced in 1938 by the Kirov Plant, the Motobronevagon MBV-2 was a self-propelled armored train that mounted three 76.2mm guns in individual turrets. It carried a number of machine guns, and had a crew of fifteen. Only two were built, and a surviving example is on display at the Kubinka Tank Museum.

Soviet MBV-2 Armored Train (85514) is an injection-molded kit that contains over 420 parts spread over 26 sprues. Also included are clear parts, 2 photo-etched frets, and 5 sections of railroad beds for use as a display base. The built model stands at 570mm in length and 94mm in width.

I've been looking forward to this ever since I saw it announced in the catalog! I have to wonder if they just threw the already molded track sections in with this, or if it was retooled for the Russian gauge, since it was wider than standard European rail lines. Just as a weird aside - that's a very different box shape! It's not going to stack well in the stash.

Looks like it will be around 90Euros? HobbyLink Japan have it on order for 13440. Not so sure I agree the detail looks that soft looking at the weld / cut edge details: Still, my interest is mainly that there may be a 1/72 scale version, and it made me realise that the dimensions given on the HB site for the 1/72 Geschutzwagen at 594mm long must surely be wrong, if this model is 570mm long... or maybe it just has that length of track.

About time there was something for all those German train items from Trumpeter to fight. I wonder what happens if a German and Russian train are on the same track?! Or, if they are different gauges, what happens if two opposing trains are on adjacent tracks? Looking at the sizes of the pieces I can see why the box is the shape it is - I'd be interested to see the size of the dies! No one has mentioned the cast-in star on one of the turrets. Presumably on the prototype this would have been a special casting, so not just surplus tank turrets. Surprised it isn't called out to be painted red on the instructions!

Well, this is nice to see, but did you guys hear that Takom just announced a NEW BERGEPANTHER! Yaaaa! Definitely the kit that goes to the top of the list. And, oh yes, the train here looks nice too.

This kit sure looks nice but I am currently building a German train.

Interesting kit . Probably look a lot better on its own in a diorama as it's self powered , than a static armored German rail car . Would have been nice if more hatches and doors were separate pieces , a little more interesting to have figures peering out, looking for the enemy or with boredom at the unchanging landscape . I wonder if there's any Russian book with lots of interior / exterior pictures ? Should be easy to cut doors / hatches open , its the detail stuff that's a little tricky

Doesn't mention here that its powered.
JAN 06, 2018 - 10:28 AM
It was self-powered. Have a read: https://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=745

Sorry, here I thought that you meant that the model was self-powered, as in "toy train" and I though "Shesh, what a waste..." What was also interesting was that some of the larger armoured trains had complete turrets from T-34 and KV-1 tanks on them. That must have been impressive to see in action.
