Armoured Brigade Models is a Canadian company who do a considerable number of (Resin) updates for vehicles based on the M3/M4 Hull. Particulary notable are their M4 updates. Now, the company has announced two VERY significant update/conversion sets - to build an accurate M3 Grant/Lee in Commonwealth service:
Sid Arnold, the owner of Armoured Brigade Models, has just sent us details of TWO very complete update sets to convert the Academy Lee into a Grant or Lee in British service. The latter may seem a touch strange, but bearing in mind the 'issues' with the Academy kit, it should become fairly obvious!

The two NEW releases from the company are:

Just one comment as to the photos used. I don't know if they were supplied by the manufacturer or what? They make it look as if the white resin parts are the only things included in the kit. Without reading all the news story it would appear that the suspension set, which is one of the main problems with the Academy kit, isn't fixed in this case. I would suggest that Armoured Brigade Models might change the photos used to make this more clear. As to price vs value that is up to the buyer to decide. Certainly nobody is forcing anybody to buy this kit. If you're happy with the Academy kit OOB, then great. If you aren't then you have this option.

Thanks for the info Jim.

What is even more strange, the Lee "Basic" set does not seem to include the suspension, but the price is also 70 bucks? Considering that entire upper hull in Academy kit is a good candidate for replacement, as angles are wrong and details are missing, the value for money of these sets is somewhat questionable in my personal opinion. For less than $60 you can get two Legend update sets for US M3 Lee, that together give you a set of accurate suspension bogies, the whole turret, complete upper hull, transmission cover and many other parts. At that price Armoured Brigade sets probably should also include the corrected upper hull and transmission cover. But I'm sure some modelers looking for parts to build British M3 will see the value of these sets differently. Pawel

Hi Guys: I sent Jim an error in the prices and have sent a notification to him. ABM015 - M3 Grant Basic Conversion Set is U.S.$30.00. I was too quick with the keyboard. Regards Sid Arnold ABM

I've just had an e-mail from Sid Arnold (ABM's) owner, to say that the price of ABM015 should be U.S.$30.00 - story has now been corrected..

Surely, there is an error on the basic set's pricing. I would have guessed the basic set would be around 40 USD. It is nice to see the stuff though. I love the Grants..... Chris

At that price it is much more interesting! But the problem of inaccurate upper hull angles in Academy kit means that none of these sets is complete enough to build accurate Grant... And getting both the Legend set for hull and AB Grant set for other parts would be extremely expensive option... Pawel

I did a review of the Legend M3 suspension and it's terrible. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/2147 I have the ABM M3 suspension and while I haven't built it yet the difference in detail and crispness of casting is huge. The difference in price was that the ABM set was more expensive by I think $3 or $4. Well worth it in my opinion. No connection to ABM .

OK, I didn't know that. So it looks like Legend suspension is not the best option. There is a few options for M3 suspension available now and ABM set can indeed be one of the better. But I believe that Legend hull is quite good and more accurate than kit part. In case of new ABM sets I just couldn't convince myself to spend money on an update set that has you attach very nice and accurate details to inaccurate kit hull... Pawel
