Hobby Boss releases one of the proposed T-18 variants, the SU-18.
In November 1929 ANII K. M. Ivanov, commissioned by the RKKA produced a design of a self-propelled gun based on the T-18, as well as the ammunition carrier for it. The prototype was a captured French Renault FT-17BS. The SU-18 kept the same design as the French vehicle, but replaced the turret with one that resembles a truncated pyramid. The SU-18 used the 76.2-mm regimental gun model 1927 with a slotted muzzle brake to reduce rollback. The decision to build the SU-18 was made on June 11 and stipulated the delivery of a prototype by October 10, 1930. However, due to the small ammunition capability and the limitations of the T-18 (a narrow gauge chassis and a high center of gravity) the design was abandoned in favor of larger and better self-propelled gun designs and further work on the SU-18 was stopped.

Hobby Boss kit# 83875 has over 270 parts, featuring refined details such as a slide molded lower hull. Photo-etched parts and individual track links are provided.

Ugly but nice at the same time, fills a gap to the Russian line up.

Yes, it's ugly... It's only interesting to me because it's a "variation on a theme", but that doesn't mean that I'm going to fall all over myself to buy one. It's GREAT for Russo-Soviet fans though, ESPECIALLY because the SU-18 isn't very well known- Heck, the T-18 isn't even very well known, for that matter, which the SU-18 is based upon. Gotta hand it to TRUMPETER/HOBBY BOSS; at least they came up with something "different"... OK, I'll take a chance and say it for ALL of you, and risk "the roof caving in" on me- "They (TRUMPETER/HOBBY BOSS) could have chosen a veritable MYRIAD of other subjects/WHY did they have to do an SU-18/WHY didn't they come out with a/an: (insert your favorite "wanna-have here- _______________ ), instead?!?" Answer: "Because that's the way things are..."

YES !!! Finally!! Another important hole in the lineup of 1/35th scale models of early armored vehicles has been filled. I sincerely hope that they decide to do the ammunition carrier as well. I wonder if the 76.2-mm regimental gun model 1927 is also in the pipe from HobbyBoss? / Robin

I suspect you can thank World of Tanks for this since I believe it's one of the Soviet SPGs that's available to play.
