Some news in from a new company, 3D In Scale, has a 3D printed conversion to build the International Harvester version of the U.S. halftrack.
3D In Scale is a new company on the block using new technology to produce conversion kits in 1/35 scale. Their latest release is a conversion to build the International Harvester M5 Halftrack using the Dragon kit. The owner, Marcel von Hobe, has been modeling for many years and when he started to work on 3D imaging at work, thought it could be ported to modeling. Through 3D printing company Shapeway, 3D in Scale creates the design and orders placed through the 3D In Scale site will be printed by Shapeway.

On the 3D In Scale website, you find some other products including a M110 driver compartment designed to fit the Italeri/Revell kits.

Armorama would like to thank 3D In Scale for news and information.

Yes some primer please. As I think it will show the quality and redeem this company that has unfairly received negative comments. Which are based on guesses and not actual fact.

Here are the pics of it painted and installed from the original news posting. I think it looks really nice and I can't wait to build/install it in an M110A2 I am collecting parts for.

Gino, thanks, looks good enough for me especially considering the limited view through the drivers hatch ! Sean

Gino, I purchased the same item for my Italeri/Tamiya M107. Although it fit well in the chassis tub, the compartment did not align with the hull top/driver's hatch opening. Seems the "resin" compartment was too high to close the hull, and major surgery would be required to make adjustments. I ended up not using it and closed the hatch. A shame, especially since my assessment of the 3D in Scale compartment was similar to yours regarding the level of detail in just four pieces. Amazing!

What is your assessment of the product once sprayed with primer? Did a lot of printing lines pop out, or is it as smooth as a plastic or cast resin piece? If there are printing lines, are they a PITA to remove because of the printed raised details?

Does the material work with Cement?
JUL 02, 2017 - 08:23 PM
No, regular cement will not work with this material. You need to use Super Glue or CA.

An interesting observation. I wonder why they don't print in regular styrene.
JUL 03, 2017 - 08:10 PM
It has something to do with the chemical properties of the plastic. I don't know what exactly, but it might be the high melting point of the styrene used or something else. I'm sure that eventually we will see the use of the styrene we use in printing.
