Well here it is! The first in a new series of 'Smart' models from Dragon.

The Sd.Kfz.171 Panther Ausf.G.
This new series of kits from Dragon is firmly aimed at the OOB builder, yet will also please those who might consider themselves 'advanced modellers'. Dragon's slide-mould technology is used to the full in this kit, to produce extremely detailed parts that build into a fantastic looking model, but with just the bare minimum of photo-etched parts.

Why? I already have their Panther's,so how smart will I be If I purchase a forth Dragon panther tooling, smart kit or smart modeler? What about a new RSO or SWS,Matilda,M-3 series halftrack,M-29 Wiesel or even an M-7 or correct M-10 or better a new M-18 or M-24 Chaffee,Opel Blitz ect. Hello !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. And what are we to do with the plethora of Panthers that we already own! Very (censored) off modeler.Mrosko

I dunno...build them OOTB? #:-) As far as I know, the German influence stems from Dragon staying strong in the market...the Japanese market lol...as far as I know from correspondence with a friend in Hong Kong, Tristar's focus on what they make is dictated by Japan...so to an extent, I can imagine that Dragon does the same thing (not to mention how we (US, Canada and Europe) are too)...who knows, maybe there's a Panther shortage over there lol RC

As soon as I read Panther my eyes glazed over. The only thing worse then yet another Panther would be yet another Tiger or heaven forbid a PZ IV. I still don't know what to think of these kits yet. Before I go drink Dragons Kool-aid and buy some I will need to see more. Looking forward to a build up review. Lets see some Allied stuff Dragon! Not just Shermans either. Jeff

I'll be looking forward to seeing the build-up and review. Panther's are an area in my stash that I have vacancy for and it sounds like they would be the most accurate kits to date, even if not 100% there yet.

Okay, another Panther. From the small, fuzzy print I guess that we'll get some nice looking parts. We should all wait til we get our grubby hands on the thing before making a judgement. I will say that it looks promising at the moment. I do like the mountians of fiddly parts, brass, PE, turn aluminium, cable, whatever and more. So if this is the entry level kit series than I can deal with that. If it has good detail and such then I'll buy one (limited to buying one of something unless I really, really, really like it). But hey guys come on, we want Allied stuff besides Shermans. DML can sell more boatloads of M2/3 halftracks, high speed tractors, trucks (all), M7 and others that have been listed. I've got German up to here and beyond. Did you know that there is a market outside of Japan? And that market wants Allied stuff. And I want the M1 Abrams. NOW!!!!

HI all, I see in many posts that some people are in the YAGT mode. Me however, I can't get enough. I saw this new Panther G and started to drool. I will probably get a platoon full. I am Panzer Heaven! YAY! Chris

I stand corrected by todays announcement. Dragon, you rock! Cold showers aside, I still find myself lusting after this kit.. I just moved 8 Tamiya panthers in various stages of completion out into the attic for 'shelf life and temperature stability testing' Mike who has a life outside Panthers.. really I do...

Since Dragon has taken the big step to abandon the Gunze tooling they based their earlier G kits on, it seems very likely they will follow up with "Smart" Jagdpanthers. They have half the tooling done, already, and these were always the weakest of the Gunze kits, with incorrect roofline angles.
